TV shows

TV shows are often more popular, more impactful, and less melodramatic than movies. Discussions on this topic I've overheard or participated in are quite entertaining and usually involve no common ground when it comes to a 'favourite TV show'. Most often, they are discovered by accident when people are just sifting through channels when there isn't any good movie or game on. At other times they're tried out because friends suggest them.
There have been exemplary shows in every genre, ranging from comedies to thrillers. Speaking from personal experience, comedies are usually seen while eating as a soothing ointment after a long, hard day. The serious and more intense shows are usually seen on sites like Netflix(for me, anyway).
Some of the best shows in each genre(affected by personal preferences) are:
Comedy
  • FRIENDS
  • Two and a half men(before season 8)
  • Brooklyn nine-nine
  • How I met your mother
  • The big bang theory
  • Modern Family
Intense dramas
  • Breaking Bad(the highest rated show of all time)
  • Narcos
  • How to get away with murder
Light comical dramas
  • Californication(one of the best shows ever, winning numerous awards. The lead actor, David Duchovny, is the all time ladies man)
  • Downton Abbey
Documentaries
  • Mostly shows about wildlife and nature. Also includes science lectures and shows on Discovery HD
  • Air Crash Investigation
I honestly think as one grows up, his/her preference shifts from movies to TV series. Of course, there will be a stellar movie every now and then. However TV shows are from where we get our daily clichés( friendzone, how you doin', much appreesh). I also like to think they play a pivotal role in shaping our 'formative years', if you will because the life lessons learned are extremely impressive. For example, it was from FRIENDS and Californication that I learned we stick by our loved ones no matter what and help them through difficult times. It seems trite but we often need concrete examples to be reminded of such things.

  1. I would definitely add Sopranos and The Wire on the list.
