Chris Nolan

Christopher 'Chris' Nolan is an English director and screenwriter who, according to me, is one of the best directors of all time. He is a unique figure in cinema as nearly every film he has ever directed has earned some sort of recognition on the international scale. Some of the more famous ones include:
-The Prestige(2006)
-Inception(2010)
-The Dark Knight trilogy(2005-2012)
-Interstellar(2014)
-Dunkirk(new film to be released in 2017)
He usually takes a while to direct and formulate the scripts for his films, but it's worth the wait. Nolan's 9 films have earned a total of 26 Oscar nominations and have won 7 awards. He has worked on many of them in partnership with the Warner brothers.
Nolan's films mainly incorporate high level science, nonlinear storytelling, unexplored areas of the human mind, and even morality and ethics. The striking feature is the originality in each film. An interesting anecdote comes to mind.
Warner Bros. invested $160 million in Nolan to write and direct the film,'Inception'. It was certainly a lot of faith put into the British writer. Did it pay off? Well, the film ended up grossing over $800 million worldwide on an idea and script thought of and entirely executed by him. It also happens to be one of my favourite movies, encompassing the vastness of the human mind(with complete accuracy, mind you)
It is often a sign of surety when we see a film directed by him. A good film will be guaranteed. It's a good example of hard work paying off.
PS: Nolan and Christian Bale kind of saved the Batman franchise from collapse. Before the Dark Knight trilogy, quite a few horrendous films like 'Batman and Robin' had been released(one of the worst films of all time).  It was hard for people to take the DC hero seriously after that. However, Nolan brought back quite a lot of the seriousness of the series and introduced some powerful and influential villains like the award winning Heath Ledger and Tom Hardy.
